The challenge

Always looking for innovation in its facilities, and prior to going through a waste management tender, the University of Westminster was keen to explore benchmarking and identify improvements.

The solution

Our independent recycling and waste review provided the perfect opportunity to understand the data associated with this provision and at the same time investigate Improvement opportunities.

The results

Sitemark provides independent best practice benchmarking of facilities management services, helping clients improve standards, reduce costs and ensure best value for money.

Waste as an asset materials were identified for the university. Now, instead of these being removed at a cost, they will be rebated.

The university has independent confirmation that its recycling rate was increasing and had achieved their target of 65%

A radical list of 61 recommendations, strategies and ideas was produced by the dedicated project team .

A detailed breakdown of all of streams and providers helped the university understand the weights and actual costs of the material currently being removed.

The process identified potential costs savings that amounted to just under 20% of the annual budget spend

Upon consultation, the facilities team appointed Sitemark to support the tender process for the Recycling & Waste procurement project, to ensure continuous improvement.
