The Trust was looking to drive improvements and ensure recycling and waste best practice across the estate. It wanted assurances that solutions were compliant and that best possible outcomes were being applied to waste streams which includes a wide variety of material.

Sitemark’s independent benchmarking review included all of the key elements the Estates Team had established, and more. Cost savings is a key element of any NHS review whilst identifying opportunities to increase recycling across the 40+ sites of varying sizes was also very appealing.

Sitemark identified several opportunities to consolidate the eurobin configurations and improve the options to recycle more material across the 45 sites.

Through the report the Trust will now be able to focus on improving the reporting processes and data supplied by service providers.

Ensured that system configurations were operating in unison

The process enabled the Trust to ensure that internal console systems and external bin configurations were operating in unison, which supports a zero to landfill tolerance.

Demonstrated that the Trust has retained good controls over base costs

Within the scope of the review the benchmarking element demonstrated that the Trust has retained good controls over base costs but there are opportunities to work on these.
